Review - Firefly - Las Vegas, NV

Firefly

Located off The Strip is the popular Tapas Bar, Firefly.  The Paradise location is in a small strip mall just a few minutes from The Strip.  The restaurant is small, loud, and full of people - It's not really a place for a conversation, but it's a decent spot for decent eats and drinks.  The Westside location is much more chill, and more of a place for the locals.

It's impossible to take photos at Firefly in the evenings after dark, the dim red lights aren't really great for photos, as you can see from the one above.  The menu is pretty large, and the plates are small.  If you are hungry, you might want to consider 3-4 plates.  If you're still hungry, you can always order more.  They do have a few entree sized dishes, but I haven't tried those.

Highlights for the small plates, the Stuffed Dates - they are wrapped in bacon with bleu cheese crumbled on top - a definite winner!  Also the Camarones a la Diabla - shrimp with a spicy chile sauce - The sauce is intense, not from the heat, but it's sweet, salty and spicy - This would be better if the dish came with rice, or plain bread... it's really good!

The Manchego Mac & Cheese was ok - someone commented that it tasted like microwave mac & cheese - hmm... Not a good sign.  The Steak and Mushroom Skewers are also ok - but just ok. The steak is a little tough, and it's underseasoned.  If the server hadn't taken my plate from the Shrimp a la Diabla, I would have used that sauce to spice up the steak!

I think Firefly is worth a try, maybe during lunch, and if you have transportation, the Westside location is not as hectic.  Unless you're looking for a scene, then the paradise spot is perfect.  I am still on the search for a fabulous tapas spot in Vegas - Most of our dinners end up being so heavy, it's nice to have a break and eat a light meal... I don't know if I want to return to the Paradise location because it was just too loud, and with the red lights, you can barely see what you are eating.  bummer.
