Review - Piroshky, Piroshky - Seattle, WA

Piroshky, Piroshky - Seattle, WA

What better way to return to my blog than to rave about one of my favorite indulgences in Seattle!  Piroshky, Piroshky in Pike Place Market... Not to be confused with other Piroshky spots scattered throughout the city.  I think this spot might be the best one!

Review - Toulouse Petit - Seattle, WA

Toulouse Petit

After doing a little shopping at Urban Craft Uprising my Mom, my friend and I decided to go to Toulouse Petit for lunch.  I just returned from a week long cruise to Alaska (which I will blog about soon) where the food was absolutely horrible, and I was craving something good, anything good.  A little spicy Cajun/Creole food on a sunny day in Seattle sounded great!

Review - Cascina Spinasse - Seattle, WA

Cascina Spinasse

Spinasse is a cute and intimate Italian restaurant on Capitol Hill.  The white lace curtains add to the charm, as do the mismatched chairs and bar stools.

Anthropologie - Dolan Tuck Cardigan

Dolan Tuck Cardigan - $29.95 (Reg. $97)

I really don't need any more gray sweatshirts/cardigans, but I saw this one on sale for $30, and couldn't pass it up!  I love Dolan - They are simple clothes with great details... The Tuck Cardigan has an open front, and longer arms with thumbholes in them.  Contrasting pleats along the side, that match the contrasting draped collar.

Anthropologie - Denpasar Skirt by Fei

Denpasar Skirt by Fei $14.96 (reg. $98)

The U Village Anthropologie store recently had an additional 25% off sale... By the time I went to the sale most of the stuff had been picked over.  But during the sidewalk sale there was a rack of skirts for $19.95, plus an additional 25% off!

Review - Nettletown - Seattle, WA

Nettletown

Almost hidden in a tiny strip mall along Eastlake Ave is Nettletown - It's in the old Sitka & Spruce location and next to Eastlake Teriyaki. After meeting a friend in Capitol Hill we decided to try lunch at Nettletown.

Sofft Trapani Wedge Sandals

Sofft Trapani Wedge Sandals $34.90 (reg. $109)

When the sun finally comes out in Seattle I am ready for a pedicure and sandals... The other day I was in the southend, and decided to stop by Nordstrom Rack at Southcenter in Tukwila, WA.  I like their shoe section, instead of throwing one side of hundreds of shoes on a shelf, the Southcenter location has them all neatly lined in boxes.  I really appreciate that, it's not nearly as messy and you don't have to wait in line for the "mate".

Anthropologie - Alstroemeria Tee by Deletta

Alstroemeria Tee by Deletta $39.95 (reg. $78)

I looked for this tee in stores when it was full price but was unable to find it locally.  I forgot about it, but the other day while browsing the Anthro sale, I found it, one left, in my size!  I love this top even more in person than the photos!

Review - Petite Provence Boulangerie & Patisserie - Portland, OR

Petite Provence Boulangerie & Patisserie

After a 3 hour drive from Seattle to Portland our group was craving something sweet.  We had heard good things about a bakery in the Alberta Arts District, Garden Of Eden, or something like that.  So we decided to drive a little more to go there.  As we arrived at the bakery, we walked in, realized it was a Vegan bakery, and got terribly disappointed.  I'm not Vegan, so not down with the Vegan bakery - I've had bad experiences with Vegan Bakeries and their chickpea flour. ugh. It was pouring rain out, but we decided to walk down the street and see what we could find.  We were thinking that even a Starbucks would suffice.

Recipe - Dim Sum - Lo Mai Gai (Chinese Sticky Rice in Lotus Leaves)

Lo Mai Gai (Chinese Sticky Rice in Lotus Leaves)

I don't know much about Chinese cooking, but there are some dishes that speak to me.  But there are dishes that I love and I want to learn how to make.  Lo Mai Gai is one of them.  Learning the name for it, as opposed to just pointing to it as a Dim Sum cart whizzes by, is hard enough!   But after researching the dish and the different ways to prepare it, I've come up with my own version.

Review - Taste Of India - Seattle, WA

Taste Of India

So there was a time that I gave this place four stars, but either they have gone slightly downhill, or I've become more of an Indian food snob.  Our last couple experiences here just weren't as great as I remember them.  However, the bottomless Chai is still the best!  And when I say bottomless, I mean, literally, bottomless.  They refill your cup faster than you can drink it!  The iced and hot versions are both to die for, sweet and spicy...

Recipe - Chawanmushi (Japanese Savory Egg Custard)

Japanese Savory Egg Custard (Chawanmushi)

Chawanmushi is a savory custard unlike any dessert custard, and one of my favorite traditional Japanese dishes.  It's typically served as an appetizer, and it uses special cups, designed just for making Chawanmushi.  This recipe uses ingredients that my family enjoys, but you can get creative and use so many different fillings.  Chicken, spinach, bok choy, asparagus and peas. are also great in this dish!

Review - Fresh Bistro - Seattle, WA

Fresh Bistro

Despite living only about 20 minutes away, I rarely make it over to West Seattle.  But the occasional stroll along California Avenue is great!   For a friend's birthday dinner, we went to Fresh Bistro.   We were with a group of about 20, and unfortunately we didn't get to sit together.  So good to note, this place isn't great for groups.  We were seated in an area with our tables near each other, but were turning our chair around to be able to talk to people at other tables.

Review - Bluebird Homemade Ice Cream & Tea Room

Bluebird Homemade Ice Cream & Tea Room

With warm weather approaching (FINALLY!), cold treats are so tempting!  While wandering through Capitol Hill on a lazy Sunday afternoon, we hit the Broadway Farmer's Market, then Bluebird Ice Cream!

Review - Cupcake Royale

Cupcake Royale Capitol Hill Location
Cupcake Royale

With 5 locations in the Seattle/Bellevue area, Cupcake Royale has become the biggest local cupcake brand... Each of the locations is unique, and adorable, as are the cupcakes!  The frosting can be a little too sweet, and it's very sugary.  The cake is good, and the flavors seem endless!

Review - Luc - Madison Park, Seattle, WA

Luc

Ugh.  I don't particularly enjoy writing bad reviews, there are some meals I just wish I could forget.  This Sunday my SO and I decided to head to Madison Park and check out Luc.  I wish we had just gone elsewhere. Anywhere else.

Rosanna Warehouse Sale - Seattle, WA

This sale wasn't as good as I hoped for.  Some of the prices are inching up, and there wasn't much of a selection of .50 and $1 things... The warehouse itself is a major update, it's easily four times the size of the old location, which is fantastic - it's now spacious and feels much less chaotic.

Rosanna Warehouse Sale - June 3rd & 4th 2011

Once again, it's time for the bi-annual Rosanna Warehouse Sale in Seattle! This is one of my favorite sales of the year...  Gorgeous platters for $15, Plate and Mug sets for $20.  Almost everything is pristine, in the gorgeous boxes!  In the past I've purchased Pedestal Cake Platters for $15-$25, boxed single mugs for $1 - $5, and unboxed dishes, platters and mugs for .50 - $1!

People line up early, and it's kind of chaotic if you go early.  I prefer to go a little later, to avoid the hoards of women!

The warehouse has moved this year to a new location, details below...

If you are not in the Seattle area, you're in luck - Hautelook is also having a Rosanna Sale today!  The prices on Hautelook are a little higher than what you will find at the warehouse sale, but usually only a few dollars more, plus shipping.   Hautelook is a members only sample sale website.  If you are not already a member you can sign up at this invitation link.  There is no cost to sign up for Hautelook either, and you aren't obligated to purchase anything, so give it a try!

Review - Island Soul Caribbean Restaurant - Seattle, WA

Island Soul Restaurant

I headed south to meet a friend for dinner in Columbia City.  We didn't have a set place to dine, so we wandered through the neighborhood until we found something.  We decided on Island Soul.  I had been there once before, but it's been quite a while so I didn't remember what I previously ordered... I just remembered that the Habanero Hot Sauce was really good!

Anthropologie - Pahoehoe Flow Top by Pure & Good

Pahoehoe Flow Top by Pure & Good $39.95 (reg. $58)

I love this tee!  It's much thinner than I expected, it's a thick tee-shirt fabric with a contrasting cowl neck. The Pahoehoe Flow Top is really versatile, and can be dressed up or down.

Review - Ting Momo - Seattle, WA

Ting Momo

The most recent opening of Tom Douglas's empire is Ting Momo, a Tibetan dumpling house.  I imagine this restaurant is a bit swankier than a traditional Tibetan dumpling house, although the ambiance is unique and warming.

Review - Green Leaf Vietnamese Restaurant - Seattle, WA

Green Leaf Restaurant

With all of the choices in the International District it can be difficult to find the good spots.  Thanks to the internet and sites like Yelp and Urbanspoon, restaurants are a little easier to choose.  More than reading reviews, I love to see the photos of the food - You can tell a lot from a photo!  So after visiting my Aunt and Uncle who live near the ID, we decided to finally try Green Leaf.

Review - Staple & Fancy Mercantile - Ballard - Seattle, WA

Staple & Fancy Mercantile

Located in Ballard just minutes from my house is the newest addition to the family of Ethan Stowell Restaurants, Staple & Fancy Mercantile.  We love Tavolata, and How To Cook a Wolf, so I have been looking forward to Staple & Fancy.

Anthropologie - Antilles Tank by Lili's Closet

Antilles Tank by Lili's Closet $39.95 (reg. $68)

The first time I tried this on, I was put off by the unflattering fit. There really isn't much shape to it, so a bigger bust just makes it look kind of like a mu'umu'u.   No one wants to look like they are wearing a mu'umu'u, unless of course, they are wearing a mu'umu'u.   But I love the mustard yellow color, so when I saw it on sale, I decided to give it another try.

Review - Mr. Gyros - Seattle, WA

Mr. Gyros

I love this place!  This is our go to spot for Gyros!  There are two locations, one on Greenwood, and a newer location in Ballard.   The Ballard location is much bigger than the original Greenwood spot, and we live right in between the two.  I actually prefer the Greenwood location for takeout, Ballard is good if you plan to dine in since there is more seating.

Anthropologie - Pezza Dress by Deletta

Pezza Dress by Deletta $69.95 (reg. $128)

I have noticed that each spring Anthropologie releases a few cotton jersey dresses that are heavier than a summer dress, and perfect for sunny spring days in Seattle. The Pezza dress is fantastic!  I love the thickness of the dress, but it's still breathable.  Because it's jersey, it's super comfortable and very flattering, even with a bigger bust.  I still love cowl necks, They are universally flattering if you can get it to lay just right.

Review - List - Belltown - Seattle, WA

List

I'd been wanting to give List a try for quite some time... So, before seeing a show at the Crocodile, we decided List was going to be a good choice.  It's a tiny restaurant, easy to miss, located on 1st in Belltown.  It's a 21 and over spot, so no children allowed!  It's a small restaurant, that seats maybe about 36 people.

Nordstrom Rack - Halogen Beaded Chiffon Cardigan

I used to shop at Nordstrom Rack religiously... To the point where people knew my name there.  Yes, it's a little embarrassing.  I moved further away, so as a result, went to the Rack less and less over the years.  But, every once in a while I still love to go and find great deals!

Today, While browsing the tag sale, which is where they do additional mark downs on already low prices, I found this cute Halogen Cardigan, amongst other things...
