Cupcake Royale Capitol Hill Location
With 5 locations in the Seattle/Bellevue area, Cupcake Royale has become the biggest local cupcake brand... Each of the locations is unique, and adorable, as are the cupcakes! The frosting can be a little too sweet, and it's very sugary. The cake is good, and the flavors seem endless!
The cupcakes have cute names as well, like Plain Jane - a classic vanilla with vanilla buttercream frosting, and Orange You Glad, orange frosting with chocolate cake.
Royale with Cheese
Because of the sweetness of the buttercream frosting, I tend to go for the cupcakes with cheesecake frosting, one of my favorites, not only because the name plays homage to Pulp Fiction, but because it's really good - The Royale With Cheese. Chocolate cake with cream cheese frosting and chocolate curls on top. Yum! Other good ones are the Carrot Cake, and the Red Velvet.
Rotating through all locations is a Happy Hour deal, it's not daily, and you can find out which location is having a Happy Hour through their Twitter feed. Happy Hour is 6 cupcakes for $9, just like getting three free! And a great opportunity to share with friends, who wouldn't love a cupcake surprise?!
Cupcake Royale Ballard Location
Locations are all over the city and more recently, even on the Eastside! The Bellevue spot is a little standalone spot that looks like you have been transported to Leavenworth - like a cute cupcake filled German lodge! Capitol Hill is swanky, with plenty of tables and Wi-Fi. Ballard is small, and also a great coffee shop, perfect while waiting for a movie at Majestic Bay! The West Seattle location is right in the thick of the shops and restaurants on California Ave, and the Madrona location is reminiscent of a Starbucks cafe, also with Wi-Fi.
The Gay Cupcake $4
Recently I found out about The Gay Cupcakes, only for the month of June, Gay Pride. I knew I had to have one - They are absolutely adorable, with a rainbow candy and rainbow sprinkles both in the cake and on the frosting! LOVE IT! It costs a little more than the others, but it's for an amazing cause. 50% of the proceeds of this cupcake will go to the It Gets Better Project. Amazing, and for a fabulous cause. If you haven't heard of it, check their website out, watch the videos and pledge to support their project. I do hope they make these cupcakes a regular on the menu!!
Fun Sprinkles at Cupcake Royale!
Overall, are they the best cupcakes in Seattle? Well, honestly, no. But they are still good. Are they worth a try? Absolutely, even if it's just for The Gay cupcake!
