Review - Ad Hoc

Ad Hoc


I think I love Yountville... Everything is so quaint, and peaceful.  And in the middle of it all, is Ad Hoc.  Ad Hoc is exactly that, each day the menu changes, one meal is served to the entire crowd, and the menu is constantly changing.  They serve everything from Memphis Style Barbecue to Veal Porterhouse.   Every other Monday, they serve their famous fried chicken, unfortunately we missed out on this opportunity!  

There are four courses each night, the first is usually a salad, followed by the entree, then a cheese course, then dessert.  Everything is served family style and portions are generous.  They feature salads and vegetables from The French Laundry gardens right down the street too!

Our meal started with a Salad of Baby Iceberg Lettuce, it had bacon, cherry tomatoes, kalamata olives, shaved radish and brioche croutons topped with a buttermilk ranch dressing. It was a good salad, but not the highlight of the meal. I don't really care for iceberg lettuce, but we loved the dressing and the bacon bits!

Our entree was a Grilled Beef Flatiron Steak with roasted potatoes and wild mushrooms.  It was fabulous!  It was cooked perfectly and served with an abundance of mushrooms.  To top it off, the steak was sprinkled with bleu cheese. amazing!

The Cheese course, which is always changing, was the Montague du Jura and it was served with really interesting, compressed melons and pistachios.  The compressed melons were amazing.  It's hard to describe, but our server explained the process.  The melon slices are put into Sous Vide bags and weighted for several hours.  The result, crunchy slices of super flavorful melons.  Amazing, and a perfect side to the cheese!

Our dessert was Peanut Butter Bars, which were fabulous.  I'm not a huge peanut butter fan, but these were not too intense, they were served with candied peanuts and vanilla ice cream - The ice cream was fabulous, true flavors of rich vanilla.  Loved it!

This will definitely be a spot that we return to each time we visit the area!  The restaurant is much more casual than Bouchon, and the food is much much better.  I can't wait to join them for the Fried Chicken or the BBQ feasts!
